The strangest thing happened the other night. It was a fitful night’s sleep…hot dog breath on the backs of my legs, PH snorting, random sleep talking from Rach (you know, the usual)…and I woke with a complete start and I (at the moment) believed that the answer to all of life’s problems came in the form on a beach cottage in California.
Hmmm….
This is never a thought that has entered my mind before. I had a very convincing dream that it would be worth purchasing a fixer-upper-cottage in a quaint beach town where it’s warm when it’s cay-rap here (like right now)… the dream was so vivid that I actually started to craft a plan in my head as I was lying there in complete wakefulness (dog breath/snorting/talking still going on) about how the Blairs could make this happen.
Never mind that it’s financially not possible…
..or that the we’d have to the fly four people down there…
…or that frankly, we’d just assume fly our stark white tuckuses to Maui, Hawaii, our favorite spot on the planet.
…or that there really is no such thing as a cheap fixer-upper in a really quaint California beach town.
Following me here?
Me neither….
I think it might be the white-everything-cottage-design thing I’ve got stuck in my craw…that and the thought of frolicking down a little beach main street in flipflops in February…when I getting heavy duty use out of my REI jacket and ski hat.
So, let’s just say for the sake of the argument and a ridiculous lucid dream that stayed with me all freakin’ day that we explore what such a beach cottage would look like..shall we?
Of course, it would involve an indoor swing of some sort…don’t you think all beach cottages should have a swing (am I right, Holly?!)

The whites go without saying…

I think I could even do some fun reds in a beachy scene…

Ahhh, the open-door bedroom…
Of course, I would take a cue from my pal Kim and her incredibly beautiful, incredibly WHITE kitchen.
I’d go with all vintage mixed with whites…fresh and clean!
A Beach Cottage (a fave) posted these gorgeous images:
So it seems that I’m beach-dreamin’ when it SHOULD be nice weather here…sigh…really looking forward to summer.
How ’bout you?
Fun snaps from my Seattle jaunt on the way…had a very nice time with my mom and the kidlets.
Happy week, lovelies!

ok-where were the mosquito’s in the picture of the bedroom with the door open? Just Saying…Have a friend of a friend who bought a beach house down in Newport Beach, California. It was adorable. No beach front-on a middle street but mostly red white and blue. What I remember most was the 2 sets of red painted antique bunk beds and the large black and white photos on all the walls of her family in beach seens….2 million, as in that is the what they paid for it.
One of my fave beaches here in Cali is Avila Beach on the Central Coast near San Luis Obispo – we go there every summer with a big group and it’s the cutest little town!! I wouldn’t mind having a beach cottage there!
Let God lead the way……Your Higher Power will guide you and give you all you need to make it happen. Allow Your Higher Power to be The Guide of this adventurous path. I am excited for you.
OK-I can’t help myself…..how about this interpretation…….a beach house in CA for your retreats-the infamous Lara and Elida combo??? How cool would that be?????
I know what you mean about the “weather”…..being from California, it was only true love that brought me here to this unreliable weather we have in the northwest. I would go back now in a heartbeat…and those pictures you posted were breathtaking. Dream your dreams girl and they will come true!
Cheers
Rochelle
sigh, divine images right through your post…don’t stop dreaming lol! we made it…

Fort Bragg, Mendocino…anywhere on the North coast… I’m a California girl transplanted to the Midwest and no, we could never, ever, ever afford it, but we did rent a dreamy place last summer and took the kids & grandkids………now there you go – making me want to go do it all over again!
sigh.
you know you are invited to said kitchen ANY time! I am sorry I missed you this past weekend but look forward to seeing you sometime soon!
bisous!
