My father ~ Author and Humanitarian

My dad, Mark, has been working on his book The Enemy in the Mirror for quite awhile.

It has really been cool watching him throw himself into the process of  book research (even going to Japan twice!) and the art of writing. He’s a physician by trade (still works one day a week) and is enjoying time to invest in something he loves very much.

The paperback can be ordered here and the ebook is here. He did a fantastic job of portraying both sides of the war in the personal lives of the characters. My dad also has a blog devoted to the same subject.

This my favorite pic of my dad and Bonus-mom, Holly, with their boy, Pablo.

They live and love on the Oregon Coast…can’t believe my girls were ever this small!

To say that I’m proud of my father’s life is an understatement.

He is a humanitarian who has always served in his field of pediatrics. I love picturing him working with indigenous people in Chiapas, Mexico. This is something he did yearly for month when a lot of people would’ve gone on a personal vacation. I love thinking about him speaking Spanish and healing the sick. I love that he hasn’t let retirement slow him down from serving the world. I also love that he follows his passions no matter when they crop up in his life. Writing was the dream and now he’s a published writer! Awesome.

He is a great role model for me and I aspire to have a heart that serves as deeply and compassionately as he does.

Now we know where your loves come from in your parents….The writer and the humanitarian in your father….the beauty and the artsy girl in your mother. You have inherited wonderful qualities in both. I know you are proud of him! Two books in the family in one year! How awesome is that!

I just read this article that talked about how 99% of people who say they will write a book, never do. Way to be that 1%!!!!
