So I’ve been known to stalk people.
At Target…at the mall…at the park…at my children’s school.
Sometimes stalking is necessary to find amazing models for fine art projects.
I’m not ashamed.
I took note of a lovely red-haired beauty at the girls’ school at a choir concert about a year ago. I wasn’t brave enough to approach her about being a muse because I didn’t want to freak her out—so I decided to take a chance on freaking out her mom. Fortunately, the mom was the coolest ever and was totally on board with having her pose for me at the studio. When I found out she was a twin—awesome red-haired brother–I was thrilled. Yay for me and the Ginger inspired photo shoot!
Funny how you can have a big ‘ole plan for a fine art session and all kinds of “Look! Something Shiny!” ideas can appear and you get a little off track…or maybe on the right track, depending on your perspective.
The cartoonish image below was the idea that I had in my head for months, and the above shot ended up being my favorite. Fabulous Freckles…and love the expressions.
There is just something about red hair…I’ve always loved it…’thought it was special. I shopped the day of the shoot to find everything orange. Wouldn’t you know, there are a lot of foods that are orange out there! As you can see on their plates, all extremely healthy.
I could’ve gone all afternoon with these two (who were incredibly good sports, btw), but my kids came bounding in from school and my art-making moment came to a close.
Downloading the images from a fine art session and going to town in Photoshop is the icing on the experience. There is so much experimenting and I always find new ways to look at the subjects by trying new things. No fear! It’s just editing, after all. I’m so grateful for folks like the twin’s mom, who understands an artist’s desire to create what’s in the head.
Lovelies, do you have an image in your head that you would love to capture? Why not take a chance and ask someone to be your subject? The excitement is in the planning and the set-up. What fun or dreamy image can you conjure up with a little effort?
Happy week to you!
