“Where thou art – that – is Home.”
~Emily Dickinson
Toodling is something we do often around here. What is toodling, you ask? It basically is “home lurking” while driving on a motorcycle sans kidlets or in a car avec kidlets. I never, ever get tired of driving slo-w-l-y through neighborhoods looking at homes and yards, admiring architecture and savvy home design. So fun. One of my absolute favorite things to do. Luckily, PH likes it too….especially when we’re on the motorbike. Web surfing/blog reading can be a kind of virtual toodling…a total time-killer, so I’ve got to watch myself. Hooked on Houses is an incredible spot for this and like I said, can suck the time right out of your evening….so, so fun, though.
Friend and client, Erika, sent this over knowing what a freak I am about houses and design.
I love the clean lines and the “big sky” location of this farm house in the Midwest.
I love this house (below) so much that I’ve got it as wallpaper on my computer. Pathetic, huh? It’s the perfect combo of modern and farm house…I would have a little love nest in that cupola for sure. Devine….and fabulous.
This house has been in my stack of tear-out sheets forever…I love that little front yard. So sweet. Can’t you just taste the iced tea as you sit and chat up your neighbor?
Being that our house is in the Magic Forest, I am drawn to houses deep in the woods…especially homes that have something different going on…love how angular this one is.
….and it’s massive windows. It’s like being outside all the time!

The love of my life will always be the farm house with a twist. Still working on the twisty part over here at Chez Blair.
Farm house with Greek Revival twist…
Farm house with ivy twisty (very twisty indeed)..
Farm house with painted twist (okay, so it’s a painting…but this one by Melissa Chandon really appeals to me)…
Farmhouse with tres’ modern angular twist…
Farm house with a used-to-be-a-barn twist…
These from Hooked on Houses
Farmhouse books on my Amazon wish list….

When I go to movies that have houses prominently displayed (especially ones with good design) it’s hard to focus…I just sit there admiring the set! My two faves are:
Father of the Bride house:
Under the Tuscan Sun is a scenic spot where many of us pictured ourselves as we sat there in the theater…pure heaven.
In the spirit of attempting to live an UnOrdinary Life, I am truly inspired by uber-creative fun BARN homes…I think I am drawn to the wide, open space that these provide.
Sometimes I really wish I was BORN IN A BARN.
Home is such an important part of my life….constantly tweeking everything (especially after attending a barn sale…the boys’ sale is coming May 8th! Woohoo! had it wrong as the 7th, the first time!). Sometimes just moving things around (“shopping your own house”) is enough to perk up my mood. As a matter of fact…on Friday I did just that and I felt so much better.
Thanks to those of you with your encouraging, sweet words last week. I love and appreciate you all so much!

To my dear sweet Lara-in every picture, I see snipets of your “house parts”. The Blair Abode has it all!
P.S. Dinner next weekend….???? Let me know.
All lovely…. Under the Tuscan Sun… one of my all time favorite movies!
I’ve always wanted to convert a barn or church (old country style) into my home.
Have a wonderful day,
Mikal
I’d love a Barn house! But a more traditional style than the modern one
Your blog is awesome, thanks for sharing
Those barns look like they would be lovely yoga spaces! Beautiful. Holly
Someone near me built a new house to look like a barn. It’s red and gorgeous. I should take a picture for you.
Two houses from two movies i could watch over and over….and one of my favorite expressions…”do you live in a barn?” the answer to that would be “no, but i wish i did!” … just like one of those above. xo
Love. Each new photo was my favorite. Check out the house in the movie, “It’s Complicated” (Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin). You will love it! xo… Laurie
You and me both, girl. You and me both. I also have that pic. of the little yard house with the black shutters in my file. Dreaminess!
I hope this week is treating you better. I’ve been a little out of the loop (loopy?) so I didn’t catch your last post, but I’ve caught it now, so I’ll be thinking of my friend and praying that some unexpected joy finds her very shortly.
I LOVE this post! Amazing pictures! More conventional–my favorite movie house is Something’s Gotta give!
The house that is your wallpaper is just amazing!!!! Where is that one? Kelly is always trying to talk me into converting an old barn…maybe someday. I just think we need to win the lottery and have multiple homes. What do you think:-)????
Hey Lara! Loved the post…and thanks for the mention for our show…but it’s May 8th. There is noooooo party on the 7th.
) hope all is well!
I just love those photos! Fabulous. My favorite is the house covered with ivy…so sweet and inviting – but private too. Love that. Great Post!
