MPG Friends…it’s a strange thing..
I’m not a huge horse-rider.
Not a ranch hound.
Not even really that interested in donning chaps….
YET…
I am obsessed with this WILD HORSE WOMAN WITH HAIR FLAILING BEHIND HER AS SHE FLIES HORSEBACK ACROSS A FIELD thing.
Anyone with me?
I guess it’s what this little scene represents and also that before my very eyes, my kidlet #2 is obsessed with everything horse and is well on her way to being this woman (I couldn’t be more proud!).
Horses are mysterious to me…rode ‘em at summer camp in the Cascade mtns. when I was a kid, but grew up in the city, so the rest of my year was horse-free. They are majestic and beautiful and WILD.
I like that wild part…
always have…I want to photograph them something awful right now…I have a lead on a group owned by a woman out here who I think would allow me some pasture time. SOON! Gotta do it soon.

Tiffany, in her gracious “sharing all with everyone” weekend, let Rach ride her pony and Katie tag along with her daughter (K is a bit scared of horses…but eventually did ride alone). Rach didn’t want to get off the horse—she was out their with Tiffany’s daughter for almost 2 1/2 t0 3 hours….
…having the time of her life.
Being a wild horse woman.
Jumping for the first time.
Taking it all in, Cowgirl friend and all….
it was a dream come true for her and she cried on the way home saying that she missed her pony friend.

Mr. Toby~

Horse and R become one…

I’m thinking the Vintage cowgirl images might be a nice edition to the Elvis room (looong story I’ll get to later—some of you MPG’s can laugh at this b/c you know of my crazy plans). Think “Chic Elvis” minus the velvet….I’m being serious! Total separate post at a later date….
I digress….

I found a cool site for the “vintage cowgirl” here.

A little cowgirl chic above from Vogue Nippon.
I need a hat.
A cool hat with metal studs on it…
and some spurs…
yeah..that would do it….
maybe even chaps just for a few minutes to look like a bad-#ss.

…and THE BEST dreamy vision of this scene comes at us from the beautiful Charlize Theron…
This girl can pull off the whole “Gypsy Cowgirl meets sultry siren” thing.
If any of you lovely photog friends out there are willing to take an afternoon to shoot each other in this genre…
I am THERE.
Chaps in hand.

These collages are being framed and going in R’s room…she wants a point of reference for her perfect day….
I kinda do to, but for the fantasy-cowgirl-wild-woman metaphor reason…
just to roam the range with hair flowing behind me for one day

Even without the gear….I plan on living this metaphor.
Bull by the horns.
Fear shoved aside.
Wings poking out through the back of my cowgirl shirt.
The cowgirl spirit can be lived each and every day…
Any of you lovelies have a cowgirl dream?
Have a GREAT week~

wow, great post, I didn’t know I was a secret cowgirl too…oh to get me some boots…sarahx
Oooh…Charlize really does work it as a cowgirl! I’m with you – I’m not much of a horse-rider, I love the look and the spirit of it all!
Oh, Lara, I loved this post! Your photos are absolutely dreamy!!! What a wonderful experience for your girls…
Isabel
Oh, you know I get it! Are are pretty “cowgirl” around here!
……..
We just booked a dude ranch vacation to surprise lexi, she is going to die when she finds out.
I definitely think you need the spurs
I had so much fun with the girls, I am so glad they have fond memories.
xoxo, Tiffany
Love your photos! And I certainly identify with that “wild and free” feeling. I grew up on a ranch in eastern MT, but now live in suburbia, so don’t have much contact with horses anymore. My grandmother was the “real cowgirl” in my family–she rode steers in rodeos during the 1920s!
Good luck with your photos!

I wanna do the ‘Lady Godiva.’…alas my hair is too short, at the moment.

Love, Love, LOVE these photos and your writing!
I took riding lessons after my divorce 12 years ago, and I’ve always said it was the best therapy a woman could ever have! Though I completely embarrassed myself when I came back to the barn after the most thrilling ride and said, “Oh my gosh that was amazing! There is nothing like having a stallion between your legs!” That was not meant as a sexual comment at all, but just my excited comment after an amazing adrenaline rush! A barn full of cowboys did NOT see it that way at all! Was my face red!!

I loved this post! Very cool photos, very neat blog you have, would love to read more! I grew up on a ranch, and love the wide open spaces. Horses are kin to me, and I only wish I could capture them like you have in your photos! Thrilling to see.
Thanks for the link – we love Country glam and the Gypsy Chic look. (We even verge on Biker Chic – http://redrockroseboutique.blogspot.com/2010/09/red-rock-rose-turns-new-page.html)
